Bowie sr. center closes dining room, continues meal delivery

Published

on

The Bowie Senior Citizens Center Meals on Wheels delivery service will continue to deliver hot meals to older adults, however, dining room service and other center activities have been suspended.
The dining room at 501 Pelham Street will close starting March 23 for meals – along with a temporary suspension of activities and gatherings. However, with the current status the regulations have been relaxed, any older adult wanting a hot meal delivered or to be picked up at the front door of the building may call the center at 872-4500 the day before or by 10 a.m. to be included in the routes.
The health and welfare of the community are at the core of this service as it always has been said Lynda Medley, director. The criteria has been waived to some extent, so seniors who choose to remain at home can still receive a home-delivered meal. Any questions please call.
The pickup times will be from 11 a.m.- noon weekdays. Call for menu details. The volunteers also are collecting household supplies and groceries to be delivered during this time as coordinated by Advanced Rehab and Aviator Home Health.
More information may be found on Bowie Senior Citizens Project Facebook page. The project has been helping the community since its dedication in 1987.
Medley reminds citizens they will be offering grocery shopping assistance and continue medical transportation in the van to doctor appointments. Currently, she is not in need of additional delivery volunteers but as the demand increases this might change.
Call the senior center with any questions at 872-4500.

July Jam planned for July 27

Published

on

The 22nd annual July Jam returns on July 27 to the Bowie Community Center West Hall, 413 Pelham Street in Bowie.
There will be a “chickin’ pickin’ fiddling fun time” as guests will be entertained by amazing fiddling tunes and enjoying a chicken meal with delicious homemade jams because it wouldn’t be July Jam without it.
Tickets are just $15 with the event starting at 6 p.m. The funds raised help provide awards for the Championship Fiddler Competition during Chicken and Bread Days Heritage Festival on Oct. 5.
This attracts talented musicians from all over to visit downtown Bowie to test their fiddling skills on stage in the Bowie Fire Hall on Oct. 5.
Along with the live fiddling entertainment, come hungry and be ready to outbid your neighbors at the silent auction or just stop by for a great meal, fellowship and soak in the air conditioning.
