TxDOT takes bid for Rock Springs Rd. bridge

Published

on

The Texas Department of Transportation has accepted a bid for a new bridge on Rock Springs Road with the construction expected to take three to four months.
This project has been a long time coming after the bridge washed out in fall 2018. Located in precinct three landowners have been angry about the closed road and lack of access as they wait on the project.
According to TxDOT the old structure is actually a multiple box culvert that was the length of the bridge, but it sank through the years and it was undermined. Now, it is a low water crossing with three 36-inch pipes under it that county installed when it put in the box culvert that sank.
Commissioner Mark Murphey has attempted to provide a low water crossing, but it has repeatedly been washed out by heavy rain and flood waters. The road was closed as the county awaited the design and bidding of the bridge projected by TxDOT.
Hodges and Son Construction Company had the winning bid of $443,571 and it was accepted by the commission on July 2.
