Wreaths Across America Day this Saturday

Published

Some 600 holiday wreaths will be laid on veteran’s graves during Wreaths Across America ceremonies on Dec. 19 in Elmwood Cemetery.
Coordinated by The Amity Club and Bowie Maids and Matrons these wreaths remember local veterans during the Christmas holidays.
Each December on National Wreaths Across America Day, the mission to Remember, Honor and Teach is carried out by coordinating wreath-laying ceremonies at Arlington National Cemetery, as well as at more than 2,100 additional locations in all 50 U.S. states, at sea and abroad.
The club launched its campaign to sell wreaths in mid-November with $5 of the $15 fee staying with the club to reinvest for next year’s program.
Wreaths Across America Day is Dec. 19 with the local program to take place at Elmwood Cemetery. Those who purchase a wreath for a specific veteran may pick up a wreath at 10 a.m.
The local ceremony begins at 11 a.m. in Elmwood with Montague County Judge Kevin Benton as the guest speaker. The American Heritage Girl’s Troop from Weatherford will assist with laying wreaths and the flag ceremony.
After the ceremony at 11 a.m. everyone is invited to help place the remaining wreaths on veteran’s graves in Elmwood.
When placing the wreath they volunteer should speak aloud the name of the Veteran with his/her rank if known and thank them for their service, then place the wreath.
