Party primary filing now under; redistricting slows the process
While one election season just came to an end, the March 2022 campaigns have begun with party primary filing that started Nov. 13.
Texas Secretary of State John B. Scott announced candidates can begin filing with their respective party chairs for the March 1, 2022 primary. The filing period ends at 6 p.m. on Dec. 13.
For primary elections, candidates file their applications with their state party chairs or, in the event that a district within a single county, their county party chairs.
The delay in finalizing redistricting maps for the state has created concern the primaries may be pushed out. The Legislature is expected to finish up by Nov. 29, however, the plans already face court challenges. In addition, candidates who file prior to that date could face their own legal challenges if their precinct or district has changed and they have not filed appropriately.
Montague County finalized its precinct lines for redistricting Monday see related story on 1A.
County offices on the ballot will include: County judge, district clerk, county clerk, commissioners precincts two and four, justice of the peace one and two and county treasurer.
