OUTDOORS: New bass license plate available

The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department has introduced a reworked largemouth bass conservation license plate.
The plate has a new design, with a jumping bass chasing a lure as depicted by well-known wildlife artist Clemente Guzman.
Guzman’s jumping bass received more than 4,000 votes in an online contest.
“Our hope is that this more robust bass will appeal to more anglers who will want to display this plate on their vehicles and boat trailers,” Inland Fisheries Management and Research Chief Dave Terre said.
Purchasing a specialty plate provides funding for Texas’ fish management programs.
The new plate made its debut on May 25 at the Texas Bass Classic on Lake Fork.
Plates may be purchased online at: www.conservationplate.org/bass or at local county tax offices such as the one here in Montague.
The cost of the plate is $30 per year, of which $22 of the plate goes to the TPWD.
Plates are available for cars, trucks, motorcycles, trailers and RVs. The fee doesn’t replace the regular vehicle registration cost. Specialty plates may be purchased at any time of year independent of registration renewal.
