CROSS COUNTRY: Bellevue boys, Saint Jo girls prevail

The Bellevue boys and the Saint Jo girls claimed meet titles at the Saint Jo Invitational on Saturday at Dye Mound.
“I felt that it was good for our kids during the middle of the season to be able to run in a very competitive meet,” Bellevue head boys’ cross country coach Colby Broussard said.
Broussard said the course was extremely fast.
“We were able to turn in some personal-bests, so it helps build confidence going into the next couple of weeks before the district meet,” the coach added.
Bellevue scored 22 points, which was 11 better than Prairie Valley.
The Saint Jo girls defended their home course with 31 points, while Tioga was second with 48 points. The Bellevue girls were third with 86 points, paced by Emily Trail’s top-10 performance.
“I thought Emily had a really good race,” Bryan Goehring, Bellevue’s head girls’ cross country coach, said. “Both our high school and junior high teams are young this year. They are still learning what it takes to be competitive in their respective divisions.”
Goehring said the Eagles’ times keep lowering, which is a positive sign.
Saint Jo head coach Kyle Sivadon said he was encouraged by the results.
“I was very proud of our running,” Sivadon said. “Juan (Sanchez) continues to improve his times. Caitlyn was our third different girl to finish in first place on our team this year. We are really strong as a team, and look to continue to get better.” Read more in the mid-week Bowie News.

Nocona new press box put into place
Nocona got its new press box into place this week at Jack Crane Stadium. The old press box, which was in place for more than 60 years, was taken out in early June and moved to Indian Valley Raceway. The new press box was by the Southern Bleacher Company out of Graham. Athletic Director Black Crutsinger said they looked at a lot of press boxes and decided they liked the one at Lindsay High School and went with that model. Sean Hutson operated the crane from the Hurd Crane Service that put the press box up for Nocona.
