The Saint Jo girls’ and Bellevue boys’ cross country teams garnered District 1A-21 team titles during Wednesday’s meet at Twisted Oaks Golf Club.
Ashley Reyling fueled the Lady Panthers, with a gold-medal time of 15 minutes, 19 seconds, which was 20 seconds faster than teammate Katrina Noble, over the 3,200-meter course.
Saint Jo finished with just 19 points, four away from the minimum possible to score.
“I am extremely proud of how our kids ran at the district meet,” said Saint Jo head coach Kyle Sivadon. “They have worked hard to be running very good right now. Ashley and Katrina have been pushing everyone else, and improving greatly.”
The top-3 teams and top-10 individuals advanced to the Region 3-1A meet set for Lynn Creek Park in Grand Prairie set for Monday, Oct. 26.
On the boys’ side, Forestburg’s Skyler Sandusky staved off Bellevue’s Gavin Moore for the gold medal. Sandusky raced in with a time of 18:53, which was seven seconds better than Moore, over the 5,000-meter course.
The top-five boys finished within 40 seconds of each other, which included Saint Jo qualifier Juan Sanchez, Gold-Burg’s Brandon Lee and Jonah Belcher, also of Bellevue.
“I am proud of his effort,” said Forestburg head coach Steve Sandusky regarding his son’s performance. “He’s put in so much work to get where he’s at.”
Sandusky caught Moore for the top spot in the final 400 meters.
Gold-Burg head boys’ coach Aaron Tefertiller was satisfied with the Bears’ second-place performance.
“Varsity had a goal of making it to regionals this year,” Tefertiller said. “We talked about the opportunity. The boys ran well, and we were able to take the second-place team spot. I’m extremely proud of the boys.” Read more in the weekend Bowie News.

The new press box was by the Southern Bleacher Company out of Graham. Athletic Director Black Crutsinger said they looked at a lot of press boxes and decided they liked the one at Lindsay High School and went with that model. Sean Hutson operated the crane from the Hurd Crane Service that put the press box up for Nocona.
