Both Bowie and Nocona High School girls’ powerlifters used this past Saturday’s Nocona Invitational to prepare for the Conference 3A Region 6 Meet on Feb. 27 here in Bowie.
“It’s going to be about the same size meet,” Bowie strength-and-conditioning coordinator Monte Sewell said. “We will have about 110-115 competitors, depending on alternates.”
For Bowie, it marked the first time in three weeks the girls and boys donned the powerlifting suits, and Sewell said the meet provided a good foundation for what’s to come.
Nocona head powerlifting coach Jon Shaw said the meet gave the girls, and boys, an opportunity to see what the judges expect.
Bowie’s girls claimed another meet title with 35 points, eight more than Alvord.
The Lady Rabbits won three weight divisions, with Kylie Robinson at 123 pounds, Montana Holbach at 148 and Carrington Davis at 165. Robinson produced a three-lift total of 695 pounds, including a 300-pound squat. Read more, and see complete standings, in the Feb. 24 Bowie News.
