County commissioners debate ambulance options

Published

By DANI BLACKBURN
Montague County Commissioners Monday accepted a letter from the City of Bowie informing the court it will discontinue ambulance service outside the city limits effective Oct. 1.
“There’s not a request for more money from them, it is just a notice of intent they will cease ambulance service and they’re giving us time to make arrangements for that,” stated Montague County Judge Rick Lewis.
The judge said he had reached out to the Texas Association of Counties for direction in the matter with no official word back; however, felt the best direction the court could go was with an in-county entity – Nocona General Hospital Ambulance Service.
Due to the hospital already running ambulance services within the county, there is an inter-local agreement in place that would prevent the court from having to accept outside bids for the services. The judge explained the county would just be expanding the agreement if that’s the direction it chose to go.
