MCKINNEY – Franklin “Lee” Adams, 78, passed away March 10, 2017 in McKinney, TX.
The family received friends from 4-6 p.m. March 13 at The White Family Funeral Home of Bowie.
A funeral service was at 10 a.m. March 14 in the chapel of The White Family Funeral Home of
Bowie. Burial followed at Briar Creek Cemetery.
Lee was born Sept. 19,1938 in Cooke County, TX to Thomas and Vertie (Rogers) Adams. He attended
school in the Briar Creek area. Lee later served his country in the United States Navy.
He married Bonnie Sue St. John on July 2, 1960 in Bowie. Lee was a jack of all trades but especially
enjoyed his work at Davis Gas plant in Bowie for a number of years. He also owned and operated Adams
Exxon and Superette Laundry in Bowie. He enjoyed fishing, barbecuing, playing 42, and pecan harvesting. Lee was known to his grandchildren, nieces and nephews and friends as “Leepa.”
He is preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Vertie Adams; son, Christopher Adams; brothers,
James Adams and Dale Adams; and sister, Emma “Skeeter” Price.
Lee is survived by his wife, Bonnie Adams, McKinney; children, Mike Adams and husband Joel Gaona-
Adams, McKinney, and Angela Millard and husband Phillip, Hot Springs, AR; grandchildren, Geraldine
Gaona, Jeremiah Millard, Joy Hope Millard and Jadynn Millard; five brothers and sister; and numerous
nieces and nephews.
Arrangements have been entrusted to The White Family Funeral Home of Bowie.

‘Caladium of the Year’ thrives sun, shade

The Garden Guy surfed the web and stumbled across a photo you most likely have never seen. It featured three Proven Winners National Plants of the Year in a wonderful combination.
The flowers were the Safari Dusk Jamesbrittenia or South African phlox which is the ‘Annual of the Year.’ The combo also featured Supertunia Hoopla Vivid Orchid the ‘Petunia of the Year’ and Heart to Heart Chinook the ‘Caladium of the Year.’

Living allergic in a food-centered world

Food is supposed to bring people together.
It sits at the center of our holidays, church potlucks, birthday parties, first dates, family reunions and late-night kitchen conversations. In Texas especially, I feel like feeding people is one of the purest forms of love we know. We celebrate with casseroles, comfort with pies, and gather around smoked meats and shared desserts.
Food is hospitality. Food is belonging.
But for some people, food is also calculation.
Before the appetizers even arrive, some of us are already scanning ingredients, evaluating risk, rehearsing questions, and trying to determine whether asking those questions is about to make everyone at the table uncomfortable.
