Western art show, sale opens Saturday at TNT

The Chisholm Trail Western Art Show and Sale will be July 1 through Aug. 15 at the Tales ‘N’ Trails Museum in Nocona.
This is a western-theme show celebrating the 150th anniversary of the Chisholm Trail being celebrated this year.
According to show organizers the entries should represent the late 1800s time period of the cattle drives from Texas to Kansas. Ideas were suggested from cattle drives, cowboys, cows, horses, life in western towns. This is the art association’s first western art show and sale.
Categories will include 3-D, stand alone sculpture such as metal, pottery and glass; digital art/photography; painting (oil, watercolor, acrylic, pastels and mixed media on canvas, board or paper; hanging fabric, tapestries, glass, metal, etc; and youth division for those under age 18.
An opening night reception for artists is planned on July 1 at the museum. Jack Milchanowski, one of the show organizers, said as of Monday they have received 45 entries for the show.

Bowie, Nocona libraries wrap up summer reading this week

Local libraries wrap up their children’s summer reading programs this week.
The Bowie Public Library brings the popular Creature Teacher with all their spectacular animals for the final event on July 23 at the Bowie Community Center.
The program begins at 10 am. The children also will receive their prize books for their summer logs.
The Nocona Public Library ends its program at 10 a.m. on July 24 at the H.J. Justin Building at 100 Clay Street. The program will be “Our Own Action Heroes -” Nocona fire, police and EMTs.
