Bowie volunteers join international effort to rebuild church in Zimbabwe

In 1922 Edward Janda, a Seventh Day Adventist missionary started a church in Musungwa, Zimbabwe.
The church was named Chigwamba Church after a nearby mountain called Chigwamba. It was the first Adventist church in the area and the mother church to many Seventh Day Adventist Churches in the region.
Through the years various buildings were constructed as others deteriorated. About two years ago a final building became beyond repair and unsafe for worship purposes.
The congregation began to have services under the trees on the property as they prayed for a solution. They found an advocate in Joseph Janda, a grandson of the church’s founder.
Janda, now living in Nocona, is the head elder in the Bowie Seventh Day Adventist Church Bowie.
The church is led by Pastor John Clark. Elder Janda asked the local Bowie church board if they could help with some funding. The board decided to undertake the whole project with the assistance of Maranatha Volunteers International. A large group of locals and international volunteers recently returned from a trip to Africa where they rebuilt a church.
