Early voting’s opening day sees 41 ballots cast

Published

on

Early voting opened Monday in Montague County with a total of 41 ballots cast across the four countywide polling locations.
Ginger Wall, elections administrator, said the first day went smooth with just one problem where a voter was signed in to the wrong precinct. The error was corrected and the voter offered an opportunity to vote on limited ballot.
On the first day there were 22 voters at the Bowie polling location, five in Nocona, 11 in Saint Jo and three in Montague for a total of 41. Early voting continues through Nov. 3.

Early voting by personal appearance takes place from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday-Friday at four locations: Montague County Courthouse Annex in Montague; City of Bowie Community Room, Nocona Community Center and Saint Jo Civic Center.
There will be extended voting hours on two days, Oct. 24 and Oct. 31, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. However, the only location for extended hour voting will be at the courthouse annex in Montague, not at the other two locations.

The Nocona City Council approved a trio of Nocona Economic Development Corporation requests and considered infrastructure work questioned by a city council.
Councilors met on June 10. Two of the NEDC requests had already been presented with the timeclock for comment started. With that time limit over, the requests were finalized.
The Type A and B Boards will spend $19,225 at the Indian Oaks Golf Club for equipment, aerifying and top dressing the greens and batteries for rental carts. It also will expend $20,000 to the Nocona Chisholm Trail Rodeo Arena Committee to build new concrete bleachers, railings, fence and platform.
The third NEDC request is a new one related to a Type B board loan of $200,000 to Amy and Chris Nunneley for a new apartment and office construction project.
