County commissioners ready budget, tax rate proposals

Montague County Commissioners will put the final touches on the budget during the 9 a.m. Aug. 12 meeting where a hearing on the proposal and the tax rate will be presented.
The court has been working on the budget for months and with the arrival of the certified values in late July it was able to move forward with calculating revenues. A proposed budget has been filed with the county clerk’s office and is available for viewing. A public hearing will be scheduled once a final draft is complete.
Kathy Phillips, county tax assessor, will present the effective tax rate and rollback rates, along with the certification of appraised values. The commissioners will take a record vote on the proposed tax rate and schedule public hearings.
Numerous monthly items fill Monday’s agenda. The veteran’s service office and sheriff’s office will give their reports for July. Interlocal agreements with the county and the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles and one with Lubbock County acting through the Regional Public Defender for Capitol Cases will presented, along with the home-delivered meal grant program resolution.
There will be a discussion of the payroll process for the sheriff’s office and jail, the 171 rule employees.
Other topics include: Accept the taking impact assessment related to subdivision rules; preliminary plat for 11 lots in Cherokee Trails; county agent budget line item adjustment; consider fixed asset limit and set 2020 county holidays.
