Engine struck at fundraiser
The Bowie Rural Fire Department conducted a successful 2019 fish fry and concert fund-raiser on Saturday at the Bowie Community Center, but the night ended on a sour note when their newest engine was struck by a male juvenile who fled the scene.
According to Bowie Fire Chief Randall Preuninger, a fire department member was inside the truck, taking it back to the station when it was struck at the rear at Mason Street and Wise Street. There were no injuries.
City of Bowie Police and the Montague County Sheriff’s Department quickly responded, pulling the driver over at Dynasty Overhead at 406 W. Wise. Bowie Police Officer Cody Stone issued the driver two citations.

The heat advisory that has been in place all week continues until 8 p.m. Friday night.
The National Weather Service reports strong high pressure overhead will bring triple digit high temperatures along with heat index readings approaching 110 degrees for much of next week. To reduce risk of heat related illnesses when outdoors, schedule frequent breaks in shaded or air conditioned areas, and stay hydrated.
Make sure to check on your older neighbors to make sure they are staying cool and hydrates, and make sure pets have shade and water.
