National Voter Day events planned for Montague County

Published

National Voter Registration Day is a national holiday celebrating our democracy.

It was first observed in 2012 and has been growing in popularity every year since. Taking place on the fourth Tuesday of September, this year National Voter Registration Day will take place on Sept. 24.

Every year millions of Americans find themselves unable to vote because they miss a registration deadline, don’t update their registration, or aren’t sure how to register. National Voter Registration Day wants to make sure every American has the opportunity to vote.

Ginger Wall, elections administrator for Montague County, is organizing a local effort to register voters on this special day. From 9-11 a.m. on Sept. 24 in the H.J. Justin Community Room in Nocona they will be registering voters.

They travel to Bowie after lunch to register voters from 2-4 p.m. on Sept. 24 at The Bowie News, 200 Walnut.

A voting machine will be set up at both locations with a mock election for those wanting to look over the machines.
