Second shooting kills mama cow, calf on local ranch

A second Montague County ranch has been hit by a livestock shooting, less than two weeks after a Longhorn steer was killed at another ranch.
The second incident reportedly occurred at the SM Brown Game Bird Ranch located in northern Montague County near the Taovayas Indian Bridge. On Jan. 27 Colton Brown posted a photo on social media of a mother cow and her three-week-old calf which were shot sometime between Jan. 24 and Jan. 26 at 3372 Russell Road.
The incident was reported to Texas Game Warden Preston Kleman. The Brown family also is offering a reward for information in this shooting.

City staff examines new generators for water plant

City of Bowie officials were on hand to inspect the emergency electrical generators that were delivered last week.
Mayor Gaylynn Burris and City Manager Bert Cunningham inspected one of three emergency electrical generators purchased as part of an ongoing Federal Emergency Management Agency Hazard Mitigation Grant. They also talked with Jay Evans, head of the city electric department, and Jerry Sutton, director of the water treatment plant about the next step for installation of the generators.
This grant provides funding for one 150 kW and two 250 kW generators for use at the water treatment plant.
