HIGH SCHOOL SOFTBALL: Bowie exits playoffs

Bowie High School’s Jayde Brezina represented the game-tying run at the plate as the Lady Rabbits mounted a furious late rally against Howe in the Conference 3A bi-district playoffs.
Earlier in the seventh inning, Courtney Brady tripled to score three runs and Addy Cook walked, putting runners on the corners for Brezina.
Torrey Stubblefield threw Brezina a change-up high in the strike zone. The bat stayed on her shoulder, as the umpire’s right arm elevated signaling a strike.
Bowie’s season was over, and Howe advanced in the 3A postseason with a 9-6 victory over the Lady Rabbits at Darwin Fields on the campus of North Central Texas College in Gainesville.
Bowie finished the season 15-16. Howe will play the winner of a best-of-3 series between Glen Rose and Scurry-Rosser.
“We battled, we fought,” first-year Bowie head softball coach Brant Farris said regarding the Lady Rabbits’ rally.
Farris said Howe won the game because the Lady Bulldogs made adjustments at the plate before the Lady Rabbits did.
“They found a way to adjust to our pitchers, when it comes down to it,” Farris said.
Bowie finally chased Howe starting pitcher Madison Hargrove in the seventh. In hindsight, Farris hoped the Lady Rabbits were more selective while hitting during the early innings. Read more, and see the complete box score, in the weekend Bowie News.
