Former Bowie coach passes away
Former Bowie football Coach Willie Brooks died on March 3.
Brooks coached at Bowie from 1967-69 and from 1971-1980. He led the Jackrabbits to four district titles, four bi-district titles, two regional titles and one state semi-finalist title in 1974.
The 1974 Bowie team beat future Oklahoma Sooner and Heisman Trophy winning running back Billy Sims led Hooks team in the playoffs.
Brooks was inducted into the Bowie High School Hall of Honor in 2010.
From 1974-1977 Brooks also served as a director of the Texas High School Coaches Association. During his coaching career he also coached at Midland Lee, Nocona and Cleveland high schools.
