County voter turnout Tuesday surpasses the state total

Montague County voter turnout on Tuesday was 52.66 percent, far surpassing the state total of 33.4 percent.

The Texas Secretary of State reported that nearly 4.7 million votes were cast in Tuesday’s governor’s race, 33.4 percent of the record 14.2 million registered voters. That is down from about 38 percent four years ago when nearly five million Texans voted for governor out of the 13.2 million registered voters.

Brandi Shipman, Montague County election administrator, said there were 6,821 ballots cast Tuesday to provide the 52.66 percent turnout of 12,953 registered voters.
