HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL: Coach Boxell honored

Bowie High School head boys basketball coach Doug Boxell was honored during halftime of Friday’s girls’ basketball game between Bowie and Henrietta. (Above right) Bowie Independent School District superintendent Steven Monkres presents a plaque to Boxell while former Jackrabbit coach Gayno Shelton looks on in the background. (Bottom right) Boxell proudly wears a hat given to him. The hat was made right here in Bowie at the American Hat Company. Boxell won his 700th career game on Dec. 4 when the Jackrabbits defeated Azle at the Decatur Tournament. Boxell has won five state championships at three schools in Santo, Sudan and Ponder. He’s only one of two coaches to pull off that feat. (News photo by Blake Wood)
