The Bowie baseball team won in grand style in its District 3A-9 home opener.
Bowie, ranked 10th in Conference 3A by the Texas High School Baseball Coaches Association, powered through what was a competitive game early for an 11-1 victory.
“City View came out swinging,” said head coach Ryan Rogers. “I was impressed with their at-bats.”
Chandler Dean opened the scoring in the bottom of the first, reaching home on an error by the City View pitcher.
However, the Mustangs answered back in the top of the third to tie the game.
Bowie would find their stroke in the bottom of the third, scoring five runs in both the third and fourth innings to power them to the win.
“It was really a matter of trying too hard,” said Rogers of the slow start. “But the kids did a good job of settling in.”
The Jackrabbits tripled four times, and Dean did it twice. Dean plated three runs.
Carter Shackelford, Dylan Slade and Bentley all crossed home twice. R.J. Oliver, Slade and Bentley all had two RBIs.
Cooper Cantwell earned the win on the mound for Bowie. Read more, and see the complete box score, in the mid-week Bowie News.
