By ERIC VICCARO

To paraphrase Bowie High School strength and conditioning coordinator Monte Sewell, it was a banner weekend for the Rabbit boys’ and girls’ lifters.
Nocona met with success as well.
In the end, Bowie will send three boys and three girls to the respective state meets and two qualified from Nocona.
The Texas High School Women’s Powerlifting Association meet will take place from March 20-21 at the American Bank Center in Corpus Christi.
The Texas High School Powerlifting Association meet is set for March 28 at the Taylor County Exposition Center in Abilene.
Representing Bowie at state will be Kylie Robinson, Hannah Shaw, Shelbi Rhoda, Abraham Landaverde, Saul Landaverde and Cristian Martinez. Nocona will be represented by Deziray Graham and Lexi Towery.
“I am so proud of the kids’ team results and all the individual hardware we took home,” Bowie head powerlifting coach Quentin Berend said. “The kids saved their best lifting for the regional meets, and I am looking forward to what these young individuals can accomplish at state.”
Nocona head powerlifting coach Brandon Owen was equally enthusiastic.
“I am proud of both girls,” Owen said. “Dezi did a great job competing and Lexi pulled five more pounds of weight (than an entrant from Pottsboro). I like the fact Lexi went out and won her spot.” Read more, and see team standings, in the mid-week Bowie News.
