HIGH SCHOOL SPORTS: Boyd baseball, softball power past Nocona

Boyd got the best of Nocona in both baseball and softball on Friday at the Henrietta High School Outdoor Sports Complex.
The Nocona baseball team committed eight errors in an 8-4 loss to Boyd in District 3A-9 action, while the Lady Jackets recorded seven extra-base hits in a 16-0 four-inning conquest in softball.
Nocona head baseball coach Brent Lewis said it was more a matter of Boyd’s pitching rather than the Indian defense.
“Boyd’s pitcher, he threw a great game,” Lewis said. “We didn’t get it done at the plate and we made some key mistakes in the field.”
Lewis said the boys are working hard to get better, but it’s been tough since outdoor practices have been few and far between due to horrendous weather this March.
Nocona continued its 3A-9 slate at Jacksboro on Tuesday evening. Baseball stands at 5-4, 1-1 in 3A-9 while softball dropped to 3-10, 0-4.

Baseball
Boyd’s Spencer Pelligrini pitched a complete game, throwing 103 pitches in all and 72 of them for strikes. Nocona didn’t help itself in the count as Pelligrini threw 18 first-pitch strikes.

Softball
Boyd has perhaps the best batting order in the entire district, and that was on full display against Nocona as the Lady Jackets generated 14 hits in four innings. Read more, and see complete box scores, in the mid-week Bowie News.
