The Nocona High School softball team earned its first District 3A-9 victory of the season on Tuesday in Jacksboro.
The Lady Indians and the Tigerettes played a close, high-scoring game up until the fifth inning.
The two teams combined for 28 hits, however Nocona’s bats were hotter as they tallied 16 of them en route to a 16-8 win.
“We’ve been working a lot on offense,” said Lady Indian coach Jon Shaw. “They cashed in when they were supposed to.”
RBI singles by Katelynn Walker and Sherese Price opened scoring in the top of the first, however a two- run error in the bottom half tied the game at two runs apiece.

Kameron Hill put the Indians on the board first as he reached home on a wild pitch. However, after adding another run in the third, the Tigers scored two in the same inning followed by three in the fourth.
Nocona rallied in the fifth as Robert Hawkins and Gavin Johnson on an error brought the game to within two. Hill recorded an RBI hit batsmen in the sixth as the Indians loaded the bases. But, Jacksboro didn’t allow Nocona any more runs after that. Read the weekend Bowie News for more, including complete box scores.
