For the Bowie High School boys’ and girls’ track and field teams, it was a simple matter of quality over quantity.
The Bowie boys’ small contingent generated 114 points during the Possum Kingdom Relays on Saturday in Graham, and the Rabbits topped the Steers’ JV unit by 12 points to win Division I.
Sprinter Jesse Vaughn and dual hurdler/jumper Zeke Vaughan scored a heap of points to lift Bowie.
“Jesse has the leading 200-meter dash time in our area,” Bowie head boys’ track and field coach Daylon West said. “Zeke continues to improve ion the hurdles; he’s a top-notch competitor and he also won the triple jump.”
On the girls’ side, four athletes piled on 106 points to finish second behind Vernon at the Henrietta Relays this past Thursday.
Brittney Pound was the gold standard in three events at Henrietta.
“Brittney came away with five gold medals for us,” Bowie head girls’ track and field coach Colby Davis-Pastusek said.
Davis-Pastusek said it was impressive for Bowie to score as many points and win as many medals as it did with such few athletes.
