HIGH SCHOOL SOFTBALL: Bowie wins a ‘laugher’

There’s an old adage that laughter is the medicine.
Well, in the case of the Bowie High School softball team, a “laugher” proved to be the elixir it needed as the Lady Rabbits defeated Holliday 15-3 in a District 3A-9 game on Tuesday at the BHS Outdoor Sports Complex.
Holliday turned the game into a comedy of errors with seven of them during the game, and now Bowie holds the tie-breaker over the Lady Eagles with the victory.
“I’ve seen it,” Bowie head coach Brant Farris said. “I’ve been a part of it. It’s no fun. I’m just glad we weren’t on that end.”
Farris said, like hitting, poor defense can be catching – especially after a team commits the second error of a given inning.
Bowie (12-11, 5-2) took full advantage of Holliday’s defensive woes in scoring eight runs during the first inning. The Lady Rabbits piled on the runs from there, and the game ended after 4½ innings due to the run rule.
For Farris, winning a game like this should show the girls they belong as one of the teams in contention for a playoff spot in 3A-9.
Bowie played aggressive and loud throughout the game, which included a raucous dugout.
“The girls were rowdy, and I think that got in Holliday’s head,” Farris said. Read more, and see a complete box score, in the weekend Bowie News.

McLennan to coach Saint Jo boys

Published

on

New Saint Jo Boy’s Basketball Coach Terry McLennan said the school’s family atmosphere is what prompted him to join the Panther family.

“This is an opportunity to be an important program but also part of a great community,” McLennan said. “I’ve been looking to get back to a small town environment like the one I grew up in and played ball and this should do that.”

McLennan played basketball in Hubbard outside of Waco. McLennan comes to town after being the assistant girl’s basketball coach in Grand Prairie.

McLennan contends he’s a defensive style of coach but says his team will focus on intensity.
