The 2014-15 Nocona High School athletic season was remembered during Monday’s banquet at Nocona Elementary School.
All sports were recognized, ranging from football to cheerleading and basketball to powerlifting.
Victoria Fatheree was chosen as this year’s Outstanding Lady Indian and Jaxon Phipps was named the Outstanding Indian.
Fatheree participated in a myriad of sports: Cross country, basketball, tennis and track and field. Phipps starred in both basketball and baseball for the Indians, and he’s verbally committed to play baseball on the next level at Murray State in Tishomingo, Okla.
The Nocona Athletic Boosters presented scholarships to four athletes: Phipps, Mackenzie Breeze, Katelynn Walker and Matt Womack.
There were plenty of things to crow about at the banquet.
Miriam Diaz qualified for the state cross country meet in Round Rock. The volleyball team finished second in District 3A-9. Boys’ basketball also placed second in the district, earning a trip to the postseason. Parker Marshall put up a three-lift combination of 1,000 pounds. McLennan to coach Saint Jo boys

Published

on

New Saint Jo Boy’s Basketball Coach Terry McLennan said the school’s family atmosphere is what prompted him to join the Panther family.

“This is an opportunity to be an important program but also part of a great community,” McLennan said. “I’ve been looking to get back to a small town environment like the one I grew up in and played ball and this should do that.”

McLennan played basketball in Hubbard outside of Waco. McLennan comes to town after being the assistant girl’s basketball coach in Grand Prairie.

McLennan contends he’s a defensive style of coach but says his team will focus on intensity.
