IN BRIEF: Bowie softball camp June 8-10
The Bowie High School Lady Rabbit Softball Camp is set from June 8-11 at the outdoor sports complex.
The main camp is June 8-10 and the June 11 session will be a hitting/pitching/catching session.
Camp will run from 8:30 a.m. to noon everyday.
The price is the camp from June 8-10 is $50; and $25 for June 11. If campers attend all four days, the cost is $65.
The camp is for girls’ age 7 years old through incoming freshmen at Bowie High School.
The June 8-10 camp will focus on some hitting, bunting, throwing, infield and outfield fielding drills and baserunning.
The camp on June 11 will emphasize pitching, catching and hitting techniques. Catchers will need to bring their gear.
Campers will be guaranteed a T-shirt if they register before May 28.

Softball: Game Two in Bowie Saturday
Archer City and Hawley are set to play the Conference 2A Region I final in softball.
Game One is set for 6 p.m. on May 28 in Hermleigh, which is located roughly 15 miles southwest of Snyder.
Game Two will be at 5 p.m. on May 30 in Bowie at our outdoor sports complex. Game Three, if needed, will follow 30 minutes later.
The winner will advance to the state tournament set for Red and Charline McCombs Field on the campus of the University of Texas at Austin.
Conference 2A semifinals are set for 9 a.m. and noon on June 3. The championship will take place on June 4 at 3 p.m.
Games are weather permitting.
Volleyball camp comes to Nocona
The Nocona High School volleyball team will have a camp from June 8-10 in the high school and middle school gymnasiums.
Camp will run from 9 to 11:30 a.m.
The fee is $45 per athlete, or $40 per athlete if multiple children in one family are attending.
Registration will be accepted through to the opening day of the camp.
Forms may be turned in to middle school coach Karie Lewis or elementary school secretary Sherri Price or camp director Tiffany Clay.
Campers must bring knee pads, if available, and a water bottle.

McLennan to coach Saint Jo boys
New Saint Jo Boy’s Basketball Coach Terry McLennan said the school’s family atmosphere is what prompted him to join the Panther family.
“This is an opportunity to be an important program but also part of a great community,” McLennan said. “I’ve been looking to get back to a small town environment like the one I grew up in and played ball and this should do that.”
McLennan played basketball in Hubbard outside of Waco. McLennan comes to town after being the assistant girl’s basketball coach in Grand Prairie.
McLennan contends he’s a defensive style of coach but says his team will focus on intensity.

Botard new BHS girls BB coach
After some coaching time in East Texas, Bret Botard will be the new girl’s basketball coach at Bowie.
Botard said it’s a chance to work with Bowie Athletic Director Tyler Price once again. Price was Botard’s assistant when he coached at Nocona.
“I wanted to get back into the area,” Botard said. “It’s a good community.”
Botard graduated high school in 1995 from Del Valle High School, outside Austin, and went to Texas Tech. He started his coaching career in Lubbock followed by returning to his alma mater where he was an assistant for his high school coach.
