HIGH SCHOOL VOLLEYBALL: Bowie opens 2015 season on road

For the third straight season, the Bowie High School volleyball team will open up with Archer City on Aug. 11.
Last year, the Lady Rabbits defeated Archer City here in Bowie. However, the Wildcats were the ones to play in the University Interscholastic League state tournament against nearby Lindsay.
This summer, as a means of betterment, Bowie has participated in the West Texas Summer Tour, and the Lady Rabbits have met with much success.
“I feel like the tour has benefitted us,” Bowie head coach Jeanie Stark said. “They’ve been playing together well, and that’s been a huge help. They’ve bonded. I think they are becoming a team.”
Stark said she will most likely run a 10-girl rotation this season, and most of the Lady Rabbits return. Cassie Caswell, Madeline Page, Brooke Reaves and Stephanie Clement have been lost to graduation.
Stark said it’s important to schedule a tough team like Archer City right away because “it’s a really intense match, there’s a lot riding on it.”
Before the season begins, there’s much work to do.
Bowie will play host to the Texas Advantage Volleyball (TAV) camp on July 23-24, which will feature two Lady Rabbit squads, two teams from Nocona, Conference 4A Iowa Park and Conference 2A Windthorst and Petrolia. McLennan to coach Saint Jo boys
New Saint Jo Boy’s Basketball Coach Terry McLennan said the school’s family atmosphere is what prompted him to join the Panther family.
“This is an opportunity to be an important program but also part of a great community,” McLennan said. “I’ve been looking to get back to a small town environment like the one I grew up in and played ball and this should do that.”
McLennan played basketball in Hubbard outside of Waco. McLennan comes to town after being the assistant girl’s basketball coach in Grand Prairie.
McLennan contends he’s a defensive style of coach but says his team will focus on intensity.

Botard new BHS girls BB coach
After some coaching time in East Texas, Bret Botard will be the new girl’s basketball coach at Bowie.
Botard said it’s a chance to work with Bowie Athletic Director Tyler Price once again. Price was Botard’s assistant when he coached at Nocona.
“I wanted to get back into the area,” Botard said. “It’s a good community.”
Botard graduated high school in 1995 from Del Valle High School, outside Austin, and went to Texas Tech. He started his coaching career in Lubbock followed by returning to his alma mater where he was an assistant for his high school coach.
