Published

on

Charles Haley, a member of the 2015 National Football League Hall of Fame class, is set to be the guest speaker at the ninth annual Midwestern State University Welcome Dinner.
The dinner will take place on Aug. 23 at the D.L. Ligon Coliseum on the campus in Wichita Falls.
The event begins with a silent auction at 5:30 p.m. with Dallas Cowboy and Midwestern State University memorabilia and other items.
The dinner, catered by the Branding Iron Restaurant, will follow at 6 p.m. and Haley’s speech at 6:45 p.m.
Haley played defensive end and linebacker during a storied career with both the Dallas Cowboys and San Francisco 49ers.
Reserve seats are available for $70, for a student-athlete sponsorship. A limited number of corporate tables accommodating six people with a sponsor acknowledgement are available for $300.
Haley is the only player in pro football history to win five Super Bowls, three with Dallas and two with San Francisco.
Haley transferred from linebacker to defensive end with the Cowboys. He registered double-digit sack seasons with Dallas in 1994 and 1995.
When he walked away after the 1999 season, Haley finished with 100½ sacks over a 169-game career. He was twice named National Football Conference defensive player of the year, in 1990 and 1994.
Haley played in the NFC Championship Game six times during a seven-year period, and he was a member of 10 division championship squads.

Published

on

New Saint Jo Boy’s Basketball Coach Terry McLennan said the school’s family atmosphere is what prompted him to join the Panther family.

“This is an opportunity to be an important program but also part of a great community,” McLennan said. “I’ve been looking to get back to a small town environment like the one I grew up in and played ball and this should do that.”

McLennan played basketball in Hubbard outside of Waco. McLennan comes to town after being the assistant girl’s basketball coach in Grand Prairie.

McLennan contends he’s a defensive style of coach but says his team will focus on intensity.
