BOWIE NOTEBOOK: Workman will begin throwing in October
Boston Red Sox pitcher Brandon Workman, a 2007 graduate of Bowie High School, said he plans on beginning a throwing program in mid-October.
The Republican (Springfield, Mass.) sportswriter Christopher Smith reported this news in a story he wrote earlier this month.
Workman recently traveled to Boston for a checkup as he continues rehabilitation from an elbow injury that led to Tommy John surgery on June 15.
Workman has been rehabilitating from surgery at Fort Myers, Fla., but he said he doesn’t know where he’ll throw in mid-October.
In 2014, Workman bounced up and down from the Red Sox to the Triple-A affiliate in Pawtucket, R.I. He was a valuable bullpen member as the Red Sox captured the World Series title in 2013, and Bowie had Brandon Workman Day.
Workman is currently under contract with the Red Sox for the next four seasons. It’s expected he won’t be activated to pitch until the middle of the 2016 campaign.
