There are only two high school football scrimmages taking place in Montague County, and both happen this week.
Bowie will play host to Bridgeport on Aug. 14, with ninth grade Bulls and Jackrabbits squaring off at 5 p.m. followed by junior varsity at 6 p.m. and varsity at 7 p.m.
The scrimmage will be free of charge, and a concession stand will be offered.
Saint Jo also will have a home scrimmage on Aug. 14 at 6 p.m. versus Wichita Christian at venerable Harley Sewell Field. There will be no admission charge.
All other teams will have scrimmages on the road on Aug. 15, with Gold-Burg at Notre Dame in Wichita Falls at 9 p.m., Nocona at Windthorst and Forestburg travels to rural Vernon for a triangular with Northside and Paint Creek.
Bowie head coach Dylan Stark said the Jackrabbits had a good first week of practice thanks to senior leadership.
“I think we are in a good place,” Stark said. “We have more of a sense of urgency with the sessions. This is their last time, and they want to make the best of it.”
Bowie has 13 seniors on the squad this year, and there’s optimism that experience will translate into a better season.
Stark said Bridgeport will provide a good test.
The Jackrabbits have installed about 50 percent of the playbook on both offense and defense. Read more in the mid-week Bowie News.
