HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL: Bowie’s hunting Gunter
By ERIC VICCARO

Last year, Bowie faced a powerful Gunter team that finished with a 12-2 record.
The Tigers aren’t as good this year – as evidenced by their 42-0 loss to Pottsboro earlier this season – but that doesn’t mean the Jackrabbits should expect an easy game on Friday.
Should Bowie win, it would give the team a 3-2 record heading into its bye week next week.
“It would be good,” Bowie head coach Dylan Stark said. “It would give us more wins than last year.”
Stark said Bowie needs to play a cleaner game this week to have a chance to beat Gunter, like the Jackrabbits coming into the contest with a 2-2 mark.
“We moved the ball against Pottsboro,” Stark said, “but, we had penalties and dropped balls in the passing game. It was a combination of those things.”
Bowie’s first-team offense scored on a Pottsboro unit that hadn’t allowed a touchdown to first-stringers all season.
Gunter will play a 4-2-5 defense in which there is a nickel cornerback on the field nearly all the time.
“It’s not much different than a 4-4,” Stark said. “We’ve seen that type of personnel before.”
It all comes down to execution, the coach commented. Read more, and see the complete Pottsboro game summary, in the weekend Bowie News.
