HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL: For Bowie, here come the ‘Cats

Here’s the great news for the Bowie High School football team.
The Jackrabbits are allowing less than four yards per play on defense. However, that could change this week as Bowie takes on talented Henrietta in the Homecoming game at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
“They run a spread offense,” Bowie head coach Dylan Stark. “We’ll have to make plays on defense in space.”
Should Bowie stop Henrietta it will be with L.B. Clement playing an increased role without Cayden Cox expected to play at middle linebacker.
So Bowie will need to make plenty of tackles in the open field to contain the likes of Riley Watson and Cody Fletcher.
Henrietta throttled Bowie 37-9 in 2014, but that was last year, and the Jackrabbits were struggling despite a 1-1 record.
“They got after us and they have a lot of those same kids back,” Stark added.
Expect Henrietta’s 3-4 defense to put plenty of pressure of Bowie, but quarterback Trace Hardee has matured well this season.
In last Friday’s conquest over Lake Worth, Hardee was the team’s leading rusher with 105 yards – in part with an injury to Carter Shackelford – and Hardee was also accurate on 56 percent of his throws.
GAME TIME
Who: Henrietta at Bowie
When: 7:30 p.m., Friday
Where: Jackrabbit Stadium.
Ticket Prices: Adults are charged $5 and students $3.
Why it’s important: Both Bowie and Henrietta are looking for 3-0 starts to the 2015 season.
Last year’s game: Henrietta 37, Bowie 9 in Henrietta.
Bowie High School defensive lineman Jared Roberts (78) jumps in an attempt to block a pass late during the fourth quarter of Friday’s game at Kittrell Stadium in Lake Worth.

Savannah Hil, one of the five, got Saint Jo rolling offensively with a four-point serving string, including a pair of aces. Abby Carter’s kill and Kamron Skidmore’s block helped put the Lady Panthers up 5-2 in game one.
Hadleigh Moore added a four-point string of her own to extend the lead to 10-3. Tatum Morman’s pair, helped by a Hill kill, gave Saint Jo a 14-5 lead. Bryson got within five before a Hill 3-pointer, with help by a Carter kill, put the lead back at 18-10.
After an Olivia Johnson kill broke serve, Jordyn O’Neal served up the final five points, with Johnson providing a kill to move things along.
