Bowie High School bass fishing club members Mitch Sanders and Jared Stone produced a memorable Saturday at Eagle Mountain Lake in Azle.
Sanders and Stone caught four fish weighing 11.98 pounds, which was good enough for third place in the second Texas High School Bass Association East Division tournament of the year.
“The boys won a rod-and-reel combination and a plaque,” bass club coordinator Trent Gillaspia said.
Gillaspia said the boys were successful thanks to boat captain Rusty Edwards.
Lane Hopson and Hadley Morgan caught two fish weighing 4.22 pounds, which was expected to put them in the top-25 of teams.
Overall, there were about 150 two-man teams competing.
Gillaspia said there was a light breeze and the conditions were ideal for fishing.
“There was a little ripple and the water temperature was just right,” he said. “It had a light stain on it. Most all of the teams fishing there had success.”
Kollin Gillaspia and Jeremy Stone also caught fish, however the fish was either too small or not the right kind. Read more in the mid-week Bowie News.
