The Bowie High School volleyball team was presented a golden opportunity to solidify its position as a playoff-bound team.
Boyd had other plans, and defeated the homestanding Lady Rabbits by scores of 25-19, 25-11, 25-20 in this District 3A-9 match.
With the win, Boyd forged ahead of Bowie in the standings at 6-3 while Bowie is on the outside looking in at 5-4. Overall, the Lady Rabbits are 20-14.
Holliday is the leader in 3A-9 by virtue of its victory over Holliday. Nocona is third in the district thanks to a victory over Boyd.
“We knew Boyd would be coming over to redeem their loss to us in the first round,” Bowie head coach Jeanie Stark said.
Stark said Boyd began picking up the pace.
“They were hitting at us from every angle,” Stark said. “Their setter was really moving the ball fast.”
Stark said the Lady Rabbits didn’t make adjustments when most every attack Addy Cook and Madison Little put down was dug up by Boyd’s concentrated defensive effort.
“We never matched their tempo, and never regained enough momentum to execute offensively,” the coach added. “This match just proves how very tough and competitive this district is, and you have to be ready to play every match.”
Bowie hit just .056 overall, with Little the team leader in kills with 11. Ivy Dennis was next with six kills, while Cook provided a season-low four with a negative attack percentage. See more, including the complete area roundup and district standings, in the mid-week Bowie News.

Nocona got its new press box into place this week at Jack Crane Stadium. The old press box, which was in place for more than 60 years, was taken out in early June and moved to Indian Valley Raceway. The new press box was by the Southern Bleacher Company out of Graham. Athletic Director Black Crutsinger said they looked at a lot of press boxes and decided they liked the one at Lindsay High School and went with that model. Sean Hutson operated the crane from the Hurd Crane Service that put the press box up for Nocona.
