Doors locked at Bowie Memorial Hospital, emotional final hours for staff

Published

By BARBARA GREEN

As the sun rose on a cool, rainy fall morning Monday, a large group of former Bowie Memorial Hospital employees gathered together outside the emergency room and watched as the doors were locked and the hospital closed after 49 years of caring for people.

Just over a week ago, the BMH board announced the final day for ER service would be Nov. 16, completing the full hospital closure that began last week. In-patient care ended last Thursday.

As people arrived for the board meeting there was an eerie silence in the halls normally filled with activity.

The board also took action naming Lynn Heller as its interim administrator to work part-time during the remainder of the closeout period. Read the full story in your mid-week News.
