The Bowie High School volleyball team mounted an incredible comeback during Tuesday’s Conference 3A bi-district match.
The Lady Rabbits and Gunter, who just happens to be the No. 2 ranked team in 3A in the latest Texas Girls Coaches Association poll, were deadlocked at 23-all in the fourth set.
Then Tiger Mikayla Watson put up a block to give them a one-point lead, and then a Bowie attack went wide to give Gunter the victory by scores of 25-22, 25-18, 19-25, 25-23 at Gainesville High School.
The Lady Rabbits played remarkably well, taking 88 points from Gunter, and pushing the Tigers to the brink of a possible fifth set.
Bowie ends the season with its first trip to the playoffs since 2013 along with a 25-16 record – the team won five more matches overall this season.
“The fight, and the never-ever quit determination and hustle demonstrated by the Lady Rabbits to win set three and continue the comeback to push set four to 23-23 was incredible,” Bowie head coach Jeanie Stark said.
Bowie showed resolve with plenty of key digs and blocks.
“Our blocks and digs were beginning to take its toll on Gunter,” Stark said. “Our outside hitters helped create a state of uncertainty for the Lady Tigers. They were pushed as far as anyone had pushed them all season.”
Stark said Bowie’s season turned on Oct. 6 when the Lady Rabbits traveled to Henrietta and earned a five-set victory over the Lady Bearcats. Read more in the weekend Bowie News.

Hadleigh Moore added a four-point string of her own to extend the lead to 10-3. Tatum Morman’s pair, helped by a Hill kill, gave Saint Jo a 14-5 lead. Bryson got within five before a Hill 3-pointer, with help by a Carter kill, put the lead back at 18-10.
After an Olivia Johnson kill broke serve, Jordyn O’Neal served up the final five points, with Johnson providing a kill to move things along.
