HIGH SCHOOL VOLLEYBALL: District 2A-10 teams are released
Saint Jo High School senior outside hitter Sarah Patrick was named the offensive player of the year in District 2A-10.
The team was selected by the 1A coaches from the district, including those at Gold-Burg, Forestburg, Prairie Valley and Saint Jo.
Alexia Britain from Forestburg was chosen as the defensive player of the year.
Both Forestburg and Saint Jo qualified for the Conference 1A playoffs, which made its return this year after a brief hiatus.
Forestburg was 8-6 in the district and Saint Jo 4-10. Forestburg advanced to the regional semifinals before falling to 1A No. 1 Kopperl while Saint Jo was eliminated by Graford during the bi-district round.
Saint Jo’s Charity Brawner, a freshman, was named setter of the year. Alyssa Hennessey, another Lady Panther, was named newcomer of the year.
Mindy Patton from Tioga was tabbed as coach of the year with her players Andrea Perez the district most valuable player and Luz Mendez the libero of the year.
The first team features the following players: Hope Phipps and Kaylee Choate, Forestburg; Lexi Hand, Gold-Burg, and Sheridan Stiteler, Saint Jo.
The second team has the following players: Haley Nolan and Cheyenne Banks, Forestburg; Hannah Franklin, Gold-Burg; Bailey Melton and Carlee Vogel, Saint Jo. Read more in the Nov. 21 Bowie News.

Jump new VB coach at BHS
Kally Jump will be taking over as head volleyball coach at Bowe High School.
Jump comes to town after a three-year stint as head coach at Class 4A Alvarado. She will be entering her 7th year of coaching this Fall. She replaces Ashley Sanders, who guide the team to a 6-6 finish in District 7-3A and a bi-district loss to Peaster.
After graduating from Tarleton State in 2020, she went to Itasca before going to Alvarado. With a number of family and friends in the area, Jump and her family decided to make the trip North.
Jump, who taught geometry and Algebra 2 at Alvarado, is the daughter of educators, She decided she wanted to be an educator when she was in elementary school.

County track competes hard at State
A solid day was had by Montague county high school tracksters at the State Track and Field Meet May 16 in Austin.
Bellevue’s Mattie Broussard had a pair of second place finishes in both the 800-meter run with a time of 2:21.41 and the 3,200-meter run with a time of 11:31.33. Broussard also was 4th in the 1,600-meters with a time of 5:22.18.
Her teammate Brylie Hager was 9th in the 110-meter hurdles in 19.93.
Forestburg’s Brenna Briles was 4th in the triple jump with a 35’9 1’2” leap. Her teammate Jocelyn Rich was 4th in the pole vault with a 9’ leap.

Bowie top four at State
Bowie had a pair of top four finishes at the State Track and Field Meet May 14.
Sophomore Brayden Willett made it onto the medal stand, finishing 3rd in the 1,600-meter run with a time of 4:17.89. Bowie junior Tyler Richey finished 4th in the pole vault after a 14’6” effort.
The top two finishers from Holliday, also in Bowie’s district, celebrated with him after he crossed the finish line.
“It was kind of surprising,” Willett said about Ryder and Noah Stroman embracing him in a celebratory hug. “They’re good guys, so it was kind of cool.”
