The Gold-Burg girls’ basketball team accomplished something this past Friday it couldn’t do during the 2014-15 season.
The Lady Bears won a District 1A-21 game – defeating Saint Jo 38-33 at “The Dome.”
Gold-Burg head coach Cheryl Cromleigh said her team was motivated, in part, from getting swept by the Lady Panthers during volleyball season.
“I think it was over the top to get a district win,” Cromleigh said.
Cromleigh applauded the aggressive effort Gold-Burg put forth on defense, and the Lady Bears came through despite Madi Eckeberger’s persistent foul trouble. Eckeberger fouled out in the fourth quarter.
Gold-Burg’s offense needed to come from somewhere, and Lexy Hand tossed in a game-high 15 points – which including 3-of-6 from the free-throw line.
Despite the loss, Saint Jo coach Kyle Sivadon was equally complimentary of how well the Lady Panthers played on defense.
“Our defense has been playing well, and we’ve held a lot of teams in the 30s,” Sivadon said. “Gold-Burg did a good job on transition defense. We couldn’t score a lot in the transition game.” Read more in The Bowie News.
