STORM CENTER: Change really is good
Many local high school baseball and softball teams use software called “GameChanger,” and it’s become a hit with the coaches.
The Bowie News uses the GameChanger program to keep tabs on Bowie and Nocona High School baseball and softball – and other teams in the area including North Central Texas College.
How does it work?
People, such as Bowie assistant softball coach Miranda Wolsey or baseball manager Kylie Robinson, keeps score using the application itself.
The program can perform difficult calculations, and put together spray charts in real-time.
The application allows parents, fans – and even journalists, the chance to follow the game live even if you can’t be there.
Here’s another reason why GameChanger is popular. It’s free for coaches.
The application features team management, simple scoring, advanced statistics and a messaging service.
The program offers online chat for help questions.
It’s not just for baseball and softball, either.
Last year, Nocona girls’ basketball parent Lance Meekins, the chief executive officer at Nocona General Hospital and father of Emma, could be seen in the stands keeping track using GameChanger. Read more from this column in the April 30 Bowie News.

Nocona new press box put into place
Nocona got its new press box into place this week at Jack Crane Stadium. The old press box, which was in place for more than 60 years, was taken out in early June and moved to Indian Valley Raceway. The new press box was by the Southern Bleacher Company out of Graham. Athletic Director Black Crutsinger said they looked at a lot of press boxes and decided they liked the one at Lindsay High School and went with that model. Sean Hutson operated the crane from the Hurd Crane Service that put the press box up for Nocona.
