Saint Jo City Council meets tonight

The City of Saint Jo will have a special council meeting at 6 p.m. on Aug. 24 at city hall.

The main purpose of the meeting is a budget workshop, followed by an executive session to discuss personnel.

During the budget workshop, Saint Jo’s leaders will discuss the proposed tax rate for the 2017 fiscal year.

The tax rate for 2016 was set at .6856 per $100 of assessed property, which was the same rate for the previous year.

During executive session, the following personnel will be up for discussion: City Secretary Sherri Davis, Municipal Clerk Patty Hale, Police Chief Tyler Roy, police department employees Michael Montgomery and Lindsey Montgomery, and Marty Hilton, Nathan Hilton and Michael Morris all with public works.

This marks Saint Jo’s second budget workshop; the first one took place on Aug. 11.

The city must have its fiscal year 2017 budget completed by Oct. 1, the fiscal start of the new year.

Judges named to preside over DA Hall cases

Judges have been named for the two cases involving 97th District Attorney Casey Hall, including the indictment for theft and a petition for removal as DA.
On July 11, Judge David L. Evans, presiding judge for the Eighth Administration Region of Texas, assigned E. Lee Gabriel to handle the indictment case against Hall. The judge then named Bruce McFarling for the removal petition case.
The two-term DA Hall was indicted by the Montague County Grand Jury July 15 on a charge of theft of property $2,500 to $30,000, a state jail felony. The allegations stem from reported misappropriation of state grant funds.
