Extended service on certain Bowie City Council-appointed boards created a stir at Tuesday night’s meeting, leading one official to be escorted out of the council chambers after he verbally confronted a council member.
The council met to consider a number of appointments to four of its boards plus several other financial items of business.
Mayor Larry Slack two weeks ago named a committee to review the citizens applicants and make recommendations. Terms were up on the 4A Bowie Economic Development Corporation Board and 4B sales tax corporation board, airport board and the revitalized Citizens Advisory Committee.
During the opening workshop the mayor asked for discussion on the appointments and Councilor Dana Hulstine made the only comments suggesting changes in economic development board members, stating nearly 20 years of service may be enough.

After the main meeting Bowie EDC Chairman Bert Cunningham confronted Hulstine questioning her comments, which caused her to make an outcry that he could not speak to her like that. Bowie Police then asked him to leave the chambers.

Judges have been named for the two cases involving 97th District Attorney Casey Hall, including the indictment for theft and a petition for removal as DA.
On July 11, Judge David L. Evans, presiding judge for the Eighth Administration Region of Texas, assigned E. Lee Gabriel to handle the indictment case against Hall. The judge then named Bruce McFarling for the removal petition case.
The two-term DA Hall was indicted by the Montague County Grand Jury July 15 on a charge of theft of property $2,500 to $30,000, a state jail felony. The allegations stem from reported misappropriation of state grant funds.
