Three Montague County players were named to the Texas Girls Coaches Association All-State volleyball teams, which were announced last week.
Bowie seniors Addy Cook and Mackenzi Tole and Nocona senior Magye Fenoglio were honored for their hard work in the 2016 season.
Midwestern State University commit Cook put down 544 kills with a 0.234 attack percentage this season. Cook also had 280 digs, 45 solo ace blocks and 46 ace serves this season.
“She dominated throughout the 3A-8 district schedule and throughout the playoff run,” said Bowie head volleyball coach Jeanie Stark. “Addy was a strong leader and always our most threatening player- she was hard to stop from the outside or any place on the court with her strong attack.”
Stark explained Cook’s athletic ability and quickness enabled her to beat the block or get up above the blockers, and combined with her powerful swing allowed her to pass 1,000 career kills in the team’s final match against Shallowater. Cook recorded 29 kills in the playoff game.
“Cook is a true competitor. She was sick the night before one of our playoff matches- had gone to the emergency room early in the morning of game day and still come up big in our playoff game that same afternoon. She wasn’t going to let her team down,” recalls Stark. Read more in the Dec. 7 Bowie News.

Published

New Saint Jo Boy’s Basketball Coach Terry McLennan said the school’s family atmosphere is what prompted him to join the Panther family.

“This is an opportunity to be an important program but also part of a great community,” McLennan said. “I’ve been looking to get back to a small town environment like the one I grew up in and played ball and this should do that.”

McLennan played basketball in Hubbard outside of Waco. McLennan comes to town after being the assistant girl’s basketball coach in Grand Prairie.

McLennan contends he’s a defensive style of coach but says his team will focus on intensity.
