Bowie donates to assist hurricane victims

After several days of collecting a variety of donations for hurricane victims in south Texas, volunteers began loading them on trailers to head to south Texas Wednesday evening. They collected water, tools, clothing, food, diapers and many more supplies loaded on more than 30 wooden pallets. Another load will be sent out tomorrow. Organizers said they will still keep collecting, but they will take a break as the disaster areas makes a determination of more specific things that are needed and where. Watch your News for updates.
The regular meeting of the Bowie City Council for July 22 has been cancelled. City Manager Bert Cunningham and Mayor Gaylynn Burris will be attending the Texas Public Power Association conference.
City of Bowie officials were on hand to inspect the emergency electrical generators that were delivered last week.
Mayor Gaylynn Burris and City Manager Bert Cunningham inspected one of three emergency electrical generators purchased as part of an ongoing Federal Emergency Management Agency Hazard Mitigation Grant. They also talked with Jay Evans, head of the city electric department, and Jerry Sutton, director of the water treatment plant about the next step for installation of the generators.
This grant provides funding for one 150 kW and two 250 kW generators for use at the water treatment plant.
