Montague County tax rate goes up almost a nickle

Montague County property owners will see a .0403 cent increase in their 2017 tax rate, as the commissioner’s court approved the new rate of .55 cents per $100 of property value Monday.
Along with the tax rate, the 2017-18 budget was adopted. There were unanimous votes on both items.
Prior to the regular meeting the court had public hearings on both items. Only one comment was taken on the tax rate. Jimmy Tompkins, Nocona, asked the court not to increase the tax rate. There were no comments on the budget.

City staff examines new generators for water plant

City of Bowie officials were on hand to inspect the emergency electrical generators that were delivered last week.
Mayor Gaylynn Burris and City Manager Bert Cunningham inspected one of three emergency electrical generators purchased as part of an ongoing Federal Emergency Management Agency Hazard Mitigation Grant. They also talked with Jay Evans, head of the city electric department, and Jerry Sutton, director of the water treatment plant about the next step for installation of the generators.
This grant provides funding for one 150 kW and two 250 kW generators for use at the water treatment plant.
