Bowie News has immediate job opening for sports editor
The Bowie News has an immediate opening for an experienced sports reporter. This job would involve covering five school districts in the county in all aspects and levels of sports.
The Bowie News is the only twice-weekly in the county and the largest community newspaper in the county. Schools are a primary focus of our sports coverage so we work to build strong relationships with all areas of the district.
The person should be experienced in Indesign, as well as photography and knowledge of AP style.
The applicant should be someone who can work with a newsroom team, as be a self-starter who can take the initiative. Organizational skills and ability to meet deadlines is vital. All these skills will provide a strong leader in the newsroom. Salary is commiserate with experience. Send resume, reference and work samples to Barbara Green, [email protected].
The regular meeting of the Bowie City Council for July 22 has been cancelled. City Manager Bert Cunningham and Mayor Gaylynn Burris will be attending the Texas Public Power Association conference.
City of Bowie officials were on hand to inspect the emergency electrical generators that were delivered last week.
Mayor Gaylynn Burris and City Manager Bert Cunningham inspected one of three emergency electrical generators purchased as part of an ongoing Federal Emergency Management Agency Hazard Mitigation Grant. They also talked with Jay Evans, head of the city electric department, and Jerry Sutton, director of the water treatment plant about the next step for installation of the generators.
This grant provides funding for one 150 kW and two 250 kW generators for use at the water treatment plant.
