Bowie sweeps Rabbit Run
Competitors in the Bowie Rabbit Run on Sept. 20 were met with temperatures soaring into the high 90’s, but that didn’t slow down the Jackrabbits as all four Bowie teams swept their own meet.
The Bowie High School boys placed first with 58 points, BHS girls placed first with 25 points, Bowie Junior High boys claimed first with 50 points and the BJH girls won first with 46 points.
Kamryn Cantwell led the way for the girls, finishing first with a time of 13:45.5.
She was closely followed behind by Macie McCollum, who finished third with a time of 14:23.1.
Cantwell and McCollum were joined in the top 10 by Ali Frie in fifth, Sage Bullock in seventh and Emmy Thomas in ninth.
“It was nice hosting a meet here in town and doing well,” said Girl Cross Country Coach Chuck Hall. “Nocona and us were the two best teams, it was just a matter of who was going to run better. That day we were able to be a little bit ahead of them. Those are probably the two teams that are going to fight for that last district spot to go to regionals, so it is going to make it an exciting rivalry for Montague County for the last three weeks of the season.”

McLennan to coach Saint Jo boys
New Saint Jo Boy’s Basketball Coach Terry McLennan said the school’s family atmosphere is what prompted him to join the Panther family.
“This is an opportunity to be an important program but also part of a great community,” McLennan said. “I’ve been looking to get back to a small town environment like the one I grew up in and played ball and this should do that.”
McLennan played basketball in Hubbard outside of Waco. McLennan comes to town after being the assistant girl’s basketball coach in Grand Prairie.
McLennan contends he’s a defensive style of coach but says his team will focus on intensity.

Botard new BHS girls BB coach
After some coaching time in East Texas, Bret Botard will be the new girl’s basketball coach at Bowie.
Botard said it’s a chance to work with Bowie Athletic Director Tyler Price once again. Price was Botard’s assistant when he coached at Nocona.
“I wanted to get back into the area,” Botard said. “It’s a good community.”
Botard graduated high school in 1995 from Del Valle High School, outside Austin, and went to Texas Tech. He started his coaching career in Lubbock followed by returning to his alma mater where he was an assistant for his high school coach.
