Lower insurance rates may come with lower PPC rating in Bowie

By BARBARA GREEN
The City of Bowie has received its official notification of its new Public Protection Classification from the State Fire Marshal’s Office with the new Class 2 rating going into effect on Jan. 1, 2018.
City fire officials were told of the new rating back in July, but the effective date was not known until the formal notification. It is estimated the change in rating could bring up to an 8.5 percent decrease in premium costs.
According to Jesse Williams, deputy state fire marshal and PPC oversight officer, Bowie will move from its present Class 3 to Class 2. This change came after an April 24 survey of the city fire services, equipment and water system.
